Hedge calculator FAQ

What does a hedge do?

It places a bet on the other side so the result is the same whichever side wins. You give up the larger payout in exchange for a fixed result.

Can I hedge a parlay?

Yes. Enter the parlay’s combined odds as the original odds, then the odds on the other side of the last leg as the hedge.

Can the equal result be a loss?

Yes. If the hedge odds are short enough, both outcomes lose the same amount. The calculator shows that as an equal loss.

What if I round the hedge stake?

The two outcomes will differ by a few cents. The results here are for the exact stake shown.

How it’s calculated

The hedge stake is sized so both outcomes return the same total.

The formula

Original return
original stake × original decimal
Hedge stake
original return ÷ hedge decimal
Profit either way
original return − original stake − hedge stake

Worked example

  1. 1$50 at +400 returns$50 × 5.00 = $250
  2. 2Hedge at −150: 1 + 100 ÷ 150 = 1.6667 decimal$250 ÷ 1.6667 = $150.00
  3. 3If the original bet wins$250 − $50 − $150 = +$50.00
  4. 4If the hedge wins, it returns $150 × 1.6667 ≈ $250$250 − $150 − $50 = +$50.00
